Do I need a permit for a new septic system in Georgia?
Yes. Under Georgia's septic rules, the county health department issues a construction permit before work on the lot begins. In Coffee County, that office is in Douglas, about 9 miles south of Broxton on US 441. The permit stays good for up to 12 months. The county inspects the system before it is covered.
Will my lot work for a septic system?
NRCS soil maps rate most soils around Broxton as limited for drain fields. Georgia's rules say broad soil maps cannot approve a lot, so each lot gets a soil check on site. A conventional drain field needs the seasonal high water table at least 2 feet below the bottom of its trenches. It also has to sit at least 100 feet from any well.
What size septic tank does a house need?
The Georgia Department of Public Health's rules size the tank by bedrooms. A home with up to four bedrooms needs a 1,000-gallon tank, plus 250 gallons for each bedroom over four. A garbage disposal raises the required size by half. The drain field is sized from the bedrooms and from how fast the soil absorbs water.
Can you put in a septic system for a mobile home?
Yes. We install new septic tanks and drain fields for mobile homes as well as houses. On low ground, a graded mobile home pad helps water drain away from under the home. We plan the pad and the drain field together, since each needs its own ground.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Southern Grind Solutions is licensed and insured, and we are licensed to install septic tanks. Each new septic system also goes through the county's permit and final inspection.
Do you pump septic tanks or repair old systems?
We install new septic systems only. For septic tank pumping, call a pumping company. Septic repairs and drain field repair go to another company. Georgia's rules require a permit and an inspection for a repair as well.
Do you do land clearing and dirt work too?
Yes. We clear overgrown lots and pond banks, mulch brush, bush hog fields and cut hunting lanes. Our excavation and dirt work covers trenches, drainage ditches, culverts and footings. We also tear down old houses, mobile homes, barns and sheds. Driveway grading and gravel driveways go to another company.
How does pricing work?
We look at the job, then put the quote in writing. On a septic job, the price turns on the tank size and how much drain field the soil calls for. Clearing depends on the acreage and how thick the growth is. Call or text (912) 381-6261 to set up a look at the job.
What area do you serve?
We work about 80 miles around Broxton, across Coffee County and the counties around it. That takes in towns like Douglas, Tifton, Waycross, Valdosta and Vidalia. The towns and counties are listed on our service areas page.
