Land Clearing
We clear overgrown lots and acreage around Broxton and the surrounding counties. Brush and small trees come down, and the land opens up for a new home or a farm.

Most new homes in Jeff Davis County are manufactured homes on farm and forest land, the county's 2021 plan says. Much of that growth sits near Hazlehurst, along roads such as Bell Telephone and Burkett's Ferry. Where city sewer does not reach, each of those homes needs its own septic system. Around Hazlehurst, that system often has to suit wet ground.
Southern Grind Solutions handles septic tank installation for new houses and mobile homes in Hazlehurst and across Jeff Davis County. We dig, set the tank and lay the drain field lines, then backfill after the county inspection. If the lot is still grown up, land clearing comes first. Call or text (912) 381-6261 and tell us where the land is.

The Jeff Davis County Health Department in Hazlehurst issues septic permits through its environmental health office. It is part of the Georgia Department of Public Health's Southeast Health District. County code says a new home or mobile home off public sewer needs the health department's written septic approval first. The same code bars utilities from turning on gas or power without written proof of it.
The district's application asks for a lot sketch showing the house, the well, the tank and the drain field. It warns that changes from that plan can lead to denial or revocation. A permit is good for 12 months from the date it is issued.
The health department inspects the system before it is covered. Grading or filling afterward can void the approval. So we plan the clearing, the rough grading, the pad and the septic system as one site prep job.
Within six miles of town, the NRCS soil survey maps Pelham loamy sand on about a quarter of the land. No other soil covers as much. Pelham is poorly drained and floods often, and its water table can rise to about 6 inches below the surface.
About seven acres in ten within those six miles are somewhat poorly to very poorly drained. The survey even maps a soil that carries the town's name, Hazlehurst loamy sand. NRCS says its water table sits 6 to 24 inches down for 2 to 6 months in winter and spring.
NRCS rates most common soils near town very limited for septic absorption fields, mainly for wetness or slow water movement. That rating is a broad map flag. A soil evaluation and the county's site inspection decide what system your lot can take. Georgia law also requires a Georgia 811 locate request before any digging with machines.
About one in three homes in Jeff Davis County is a mobile home, by the Census Bureau's latest five-year survey. Under the county code, no location permit to move one is issued without a copy of the septic permit. The application goes to the county board of commissioners' office. Homes over ten years old are inspected first, unless exempt.
Start the septic permit early, before the moving date is set. On low ground, a built-up mobile home pad helps water drain away from under the home. We build the pad where the permit's lot sketch puts the home.
In Hazlehurst itself, the typical home was built around 1975, and about a third went up in the 1970s. When an old house or mobile home is past saving, our demolition work clears the lot. For a teardown inside the city limits, the building inspector at City Hall can say which permits apply.
Farms and forestry cover more than four of every five acres in Jeff Davis County, its 2021 plan shows. So a new house site often starts out in pines or a grown-up field. North of town, the Ocmulgee and Oconee Rivers meet to form the Altamaha along the county line.
Along the Ocmulgee and the Altamaha, the county code keeps a 100-foot vegetation buffer. A home lot in that river corridor must be at least two acres. The septic drain field has to sit outside the buffer.
Forestry mulching grinds brush and small trees in place and leaves the mulch on the ground. It works well under pines, along fence lines, around pond banks and through lanes in the woods. Hazlehurst Municipal Airport even added fencing to keep deer off the runway. For hunting land, we cut shooting lanes and clear ground for food plots.
